Internet Outage Troubleshooting Guide

Losing internet is increasingly disruptive — from remote work to online banking to entertainment. Before assuming there is a wider outage, run through these diagnostic steps. If the issue is not on your end, report it on Outage.gr so your community stays informed.

Is It Just You?

  • Restart your routerUnplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in. This fixes more issues than you would think.
  • Check other devicesIf your phone works on Wi-Fi but your computer does not, the issue is your device, not the connection.
  • Check the router lightsA solid green/blue light usually means the connection is working. Red or flashing orange typically indicates a problem with the upstream connection.
  • Try a wired connectionPlug an ethernet cable directly into your router. If wired works but Wi-Fi does not, it is a Wi-Fi issue, not an outage.
  • Check your provider's status pageMost Greek ISPs (Cosmote, Vodafone, Nova, Wind) have service status pages.

Signs of a Wider Outage

  • Multiple devices and neighbors affected
  • Router shows no upstream connection (WAN/internet light off)
  • Provider's status page is down or reports issues
  • Check Outage.grif others in your area have already reported, you're likely experiencing a wider outage

When to Report on Outage.gr

Prevention Tips

  • Keep a mobile data backup plan — A prepaid SIM with data can save you during fixed-line outages
  • Use a UPS for your router — Keeps you connected during short power outages
  • Know your provider's app — Most let you report faults and check status
  • Save important work frequently — Cloud sync helps, but also keep local copies
  • Consider a secondary provider for critical work — Some fiber providers offer 4G backup routers
