OUTAGE.GREN

Real-time utility outage tracking for Greece

Outage.gr is a free, crowdsourced platform that helps Greek residents report and monitor power, water, and internet outages as they happen. Since launching in early 2026, a growing community has submitted more than 1,500 verified reports from across Greece.

Our Mission

When the lights go out, most people have no idea if it is just their building or the whole neighborhood. They call DEDDIE, wait on hold, and still have no real answer. We built Outage.gr to change that. Outage.gr gives every resident the power to instantly see whether others nearby are affected, confirm the outage, and track restoration — all anonymously and in seconds. No accounts, no personal data, just fast, transparent utility status for everyone. We believe utility status information belongs in the public domain, especially during emergencies. That is why Outage.gr has always been and will remain completely free.

How It Works

1

Report

A resident loses power, water, or internet. They open Outage.gr and submit a quick anonymous report — the outage type, location (GPS or search), and optionally their provider and any damages. The report is live on the map within seconds.

2

Verify

Other residents in the area see the report on the live map and confirm it with one tap using the 'Me Too' button. The verification score rises, and the outage becomes more visible to the community. One device fingerprint gets one vote — this prevents manipulation while keeping participation open to everyone.

3

Resolve

When service is restored, the original reporter marks the outage as resolved. It moves to the history archive for record-keeping and future analysis. If no one marks it resolved, the report expires automatically after one hour of inactivity — keeping the map accurate.

Our Methodology

Every report has a 1-hour activity window. As long as new confirmations or comments come in, the report stays active. If no activity occurs within one hour, it naturally expires. This self-cleaning mechanism ensures the map always reflects the current reality — not hours-old stale data. All reports are anonymous — we use a random device fingerprint stored in your browser, not personal data. This means anyone can report freely without fear of identification. We do not collect email addresses, IP addresses, or any personally identifying information.

DEDDIE Integration

Beyond crowdsourced reports, we integrate official scheduled maintenance data from DEDDIE (the Greek power distribution operator). Our automated pipeline runs daily, harvesting upcoming planned outages from DEDDIE's own systems, geocoding them, and displaying them on city pages and in the My Area section. This means our users see both what is happening right now and what is scheduled to happen.

Who's Behind Outage.gr

GS

George Spyrou

Founder & Developer

Outage.gr is an independent project founded in January 2026 by George Spyrou, its sole founder and developer. The idea came from a simple, recurring frustration: when the power goes out in Greece, there's no fast way to tell whether it's just your building or the whole neighbourhood. George built Outage.gr to give every resident an instant, anonymous answer. Everything you see — the live map, the data analysis, the guides on consumer rights and outage preparedness — is researched, written and maintained by George. Outage.gr is not affiliated with DEDDIE, EYDAP, EYATH or any utility operator, and is not funded by them. It is an independent platform that exists to make utility status transparent for the public. For questions, data requests or press: hello@outage.gr. I usually reply within 24–48 hours.

Open, Free, and Independent

Outage.gr is completely free to use. It is not funded by utility operators and has no commercial relationship with DEDDIE, electricity suppliers, or ISPs. The data is crowdsourced from the community and the analysis is independent. The platform is available in Greek and English, covering all of Greece from Athens to the smallest islands.

Media and Press

Journalists and researchers are welcome to use Outage.gr's publicly available outage data for reporting and analysis. For data requests, interview requests, or press inquiries, contact hello@outage.gr.
